Exam preparation checklist A plan across several weeks: requirements and self-assessment, priorities, daily breakdown, spaced revision, a timed mock, routine and the exam day itself. [ ] Write out the requirements and exam format What is asked, how many tasks, how long, what is allowed. Preparing blind is the most expensive mistake. [ ] Assess what you know and what you do not A practice paper or a short self-test by topic. Without it the plan rests on feelings, and feelings flatter. [ ] Prioritise by weight and by weakness Start with what scores most and is least familiar. Revisiting a favourite topic a third time is pleasant and useless. [ ] Break the work into days with specific topics “Tuesday: work through ten problems of this type”, not “study maths”. A vague plan does not get done. [ ] Build in spaced revision Material reviewed after a day, three days and a week lasts far longer. Without revision, week one is wasted. [ ] Study by practising, not by rereading Solve, answer, write from memory. Rereading creates a feeling of knowledge that fails in the exam. [ ] Do a full mock under exam timing The single most useful exercise: it shows both the gaps and how you manage time under pressure. [ ] Analyse mistakes rather than counting scores An unexamined mistake repeats. Keep a short list of recurring errors and review it before the exam. [ ] Work in blocks with breaks Forty to fifty minutes then a short break beats an unbroken evening. Keep the phone in another room. [ ] Do not trade sleep for volume A sleepless night before an exam costs more than an unlearned topic. Sleep is part of preparation. [ ] Ask for help where you are stuck A teacher, a tutor, a classmate, a study group. Three weeks stuck on one topic costs more than one question. [ ] Agree the routine with the household Quiet hours, meals, who does not interrupt. Preparing in a home where nobody knows takes twice as long. [ ] Check the exam logistics in advance Address, time, documents, what is permitted, when to leave. Not something to discover on the morning. [ ] Pack everything the night before Documents, pens, water, a snack, clothes. A rushed morning consumes the attention the exam needs. [ ] Do not dissect the exam right afterwards Especially if another one follows. Comparing answers in the corridor ruins the mood and changes nothing.
