Laundry without losses: checklist
How to stop ruining clothes: labels, sorting by colour and fabric, pockets and mesh bags, detergent dosing, stain treatment, drying and machine care.

[ ] Read the care label before a garment's first wash
    Temperature, cycle, spin, drying, ironing. It is the manufacturer's instruction, and it knows the fabric.
[ ] Sort by colour: white, light, dark, bright
    One bleeding item ruins the whole load in a single cycle. Wash new bright items separately the first time.
[ ] Sort by fabric and cycle
    Wool, silk, synthetics, cotton and technical fabrics need different programmes and temperatures.
[ ] Empty the pockets and close the zips
    A tissue ruins a load, a pen ruins it permanently. Open zips tear neighbouring clothes and the drum.
[ ] Turn dark items, prints and delicates inside out
    Colour and prints last longer and the friction hits the inside. Jeans go inside out too.
[ ] Use mesh bags for delicates and underwear
    Underwired bras, fine knitwear, socks. A bag costs very little and noticeably extends their life.
[ ] Pre-treat stains by type before washing
    Grease, blood, wine and grass all differ. Hot water sets protein stains permanently.
[ ] Do not overfill the drum
    Clothes need room, or they neither wash nor rinse properly. A full drum is not the same as a stuffed one.
[ ] Measure the detergent
    Excess does not clean better: it stays in the fabric, irritates skin and builds up in the machine.
[ ] Choose the temperature from the label, not from habit
    Hot water is not a universal answer: it shrinks fabrics, sets stains and wastes energy.
[ ] Dry wool and knitwear flat
    On a hanger they stretch under their own weight, and the shape never comes back.
[ ] Use the tumble dryer only where the label allows
    After washing, this is where clothes shrink and spoil most. Technical sportswear follows its own instructions.
[ ] Look after the washing machine
    The drawer, filter, door seal, and leaving the door ajar. A smelly machine is a permanently closed damp drum.
[ ] Iron by fabric and do not over-dry
    Slightly damp clothes iron more easily. Set the temperature by the label, not by the thickest item in the pile.
