Shower cleaning checklist
Clean the shower in order: limescale on the glass, the shower head, grout and drain — plus the habit that keeps deposits from coming back. The list adapts to your shower.

[ ] Ventilate the room and gather your supplies
    Open a window or start the extractor. Set out a non-scratch sponge, a soft brush for grout, a cloth, a squeegee and a cleaner suited to your surfaces.
[ ] Take out bottles, sponges and the mat
    An empty shower can be cleaned in one pass. While you are at it, wipe the bottoms of the bottles, where soap and water leave a slippery film.
[ ] Collect hair from the drain and corners
    Collect dry debris before you start washing. Remove only the drain parts intended for routine cleaning.
[ ] Apply cleaner to the walls and let it work
    Apply the product to the walls, tray and glass and leave it for the stated time. While it works, move on to the shower head and the shelves.
[ ] Wipe the shelves, holders and soap dish
    Soap residue builds up on holders and later runs down the wall. Rinse and dry any removable parts.
[ ] Descale the shower head
    Check the manual first: some heads must not be soaked. On many models the deposits come off by rubbing the nozzles with a finger or a cloth.
[ ] Clean and dry the tap
    Check that the product is approved for the tap finish, use a soft cloth and dry it: the marks come from droplets left to dry.
[ ] Clean the walls and corners of the enclosure
    Work over the walls with a sponge, paying attention to the lower part where deposits are heaviest. Rinse the product off completely so no film remains.
[ ] Clean the glass and squeegee it dry
    Check the care rules for any protective coating, wash the glass and squeegee from top to bottom. Never scrape with metal.
[ ] Wash or replace the shower curtain
    Wash the curtain according to its label and hang it spread out until fully dry. Damp folds are the main cause of dark marks.
[ ] Clean the tray, including the corner by the drain
    Clean an acrylic tray only with approved products and a soft sponge. Check that the surface is not slippery once rinsed.
[ ] Brush the grout and sealant lines
    A soft brush and a suitable product. If a dark mark stays or keeps returning in the same place, write a separate task: the cause is constant moisture, not a lack of scrubbing.
[ ] Rinse the drain cover and check the flow
    Rinse the cover, refit it and run the water. If it drains slowly, write a separate task to deal with the blockage.
[ ] Rinse all surfaces free of product
    Leftover product leaves streaks and a slippery film. Go over walls, tray and door with clean water.
[ ] Dry everything and leave the door open
    Dry the glass, tap and tray edges, leave the door ajar and run the extractor for a few more minutes. This is the single best prevention.
[ ] Put things back and note what is running out
    Put the bottles back on dry shelves and hang a clean towel. Note any product running low or a sponge due for replacement right away.
