Subscription audit checklist How to find every subscription and decide on each: a year of statements, app stores, email, cancelling properly, trial reminders and a repeat in six months. [ ] Review twelve months of card statements Look for regular charges of identical amounts. Twelve months, because annual subscriptions are invisible in a quarter. [ ] Check subscriptions in the app stores On every device and in every account, including children's. Half the forgotten charges live there. [ ] Search your email for renewal messages Search for “subscription”, “renewal”, “receipt”. That finds services you would never recall on your own. [ ] Make a full list with amounts and dates Service, amount, period, next charge date, who uses it. The annual total is usually a surprise. [ ] Decide on each: keep, cancel or change plan A simple test: did you use it in the last month. If not, cancel rather than “it might come in handy”. [ ] Complete the cancellation and keep proof Many services need confirmation, and cancelling in an app does not always stop the charge. Check the status afterwards. [ ] Set reminders for every free trial Two days before they end. Trials are the main source of forgotten charges, and one minute prevents it. [ ] Move what you keep to an annual plan If you use it constantly, annual is usually cheaper. But only after deciding to keep it, not before. [ ] Check family plans and the agreements around them Who pays, who uses it, what happens if people move apart. Shared services cause more friction than expected. [ ] See where your cards are stored Stores, services, payment systems. While you are there, remove cards from services you no longer use. [ ] Find duplicates and overlaps Two storage plans, three streaming services, the same subscription in two accounts. More common than anyone likes. [ ] Check whether prices have gone up Services raise prices quietly. Compare the current amount with what you signed up for. [ ] Add up the annual total The annual figure, not the monthly one, shows the real scale. It is the most persuasive part of the audit. [ ] Schedule the next audit in six months Subscriptions accumulate again. Six months is enough for the next audit to pay for itself. Checklist from Unload: https://unloads.me/c/subscriptions-audit
